FORENSIC MENTAL HEALTH EVALUATIONS

Solomon Family Solutions (SFS) is pleased to offer the community affordable and professional forensic mental health evaluations with a written report appropriate to file with the courts and/or to provide to other mental health or medical professionals.

SFS specializes in forensic mental health and evaluation services; however, we are able to provide a clinical mental health assessment if requested.

What ages will Solomon Family Solutions accept to provide a forensic mental health evaluation?

Forensic Mental Health Evaluations are available for both Adults and Adolescents (12 years old to 17 years old).

Please contact us if you require an assessment of a younger child (3 years old to 11 years old); depending upon the concerns and circumstances, we may be able to provide an evaluation or provide a referral for another provider.

What is the cost of a Forensic Mental Health Evaluation and written report of findings and recommendations?

Forensic Mental Health Evaluations for Adults $200

Forensic Mental Health Evaluations for Adolescent $250 (cost reflects the additional time required to confer with parent(s))

Are Forensic Mental Health Evaluations and Forensic Psychological Evaluations the same thing?

NO, forensic mental health evaluations are different than forensic psychological evaluations. Forensic mental health evaluations are less invasive and focus exclusively on the person’s current mental health condition and functioning as well as their biological, psychological, and social history. Based upon the assessment, the practitioner will provide impressions, findings, and recommendations for the client and/or the court.

Forensic psychological evaluations are far more invasive and time consuming. There are more specific questions that likely need to be addressed prior to seeking a psychological evaluation (a consultation with a member of our team to include your attorney is recommended). For instance, since Solomon Family Solutions focuses exclusively on evaluations pertaining to civil and juvenile litigation involving parenting, child custody, and domestic violence matters, some specific questions may include Is this person safe to be around a child? What is the person’s risk of violence to self or others? How will the person function as a co-parent? Is this person capable of caring for a child? Does this person have the capability and means to reasonably and properly care for their child? Unfortunately, it has been our experience that TN licensed psychologists (ie. clinical psychologists) lack fundamental skills, training, and experience to reliably answer many of these questions, which may in turn inadvertently place you and your children in harm’s way.

SFS DOES NOT offer or provide clinical or psychological evaluations or psychoeducational assessments or neuropsychological evaluations. SFS has outside resources available to refer folks needing these types of evaluations, if required.

What can a client expect at their Forensic Mental Health Evaluation appointment.

One of our trained forensic mental health professionals will meet individually in person with the client for approximately 90 to 120 minutes and conduct a full bio-psycho-social assessment to investigate the individual’s medical, psychological, and social history to determine if the person is suffering a mental health condition that they may benefit from receiving additional support such as mental health and/or medical services. Collateral contacts and documentation may be requested and required depending upon the observed behaviors during the assessment and/or the history of the client, and/or the age of the client (e.g., adolescents).

Does SFS accept insurance?

NO, SFS DOES NOT accept insurance and only accepts payments via cash, debit card, CashApp, Venmo, PayPal, or credit card. Because we are a nonprofit organization and committed to meeting the needs of those in our community, SFS may offer a payment plan to assist with the affordability of the assessment upon request and in certain circumstances.

It has been SFS’ experience that many court ordered evaluations are not covered by insurance.
