What can a client expect at their Forensic Alcohol and Drug Assessment appointment?
One of our trained forensic mental health professionals will meet individually in person with the client for approximately 90 to 120 minutes and conduct a full bio-psycho-social assessment to investigate the individual’s medical, psychological, and social history to determine if the person is suffering a substance abuse disorder that they may benefit from receiving additional support such as mental health and/or medical services. Collateral contacts and documentation may be requested and required depending upon the observed behaviors during the assessment and/or the history of the client, and/or the age of the client (e.g., adolescents).
Does SFS require or provide drug testing?
NO, SFS DOES NOT require or provide a drug test as part of their A&D Assessment. SFS may recommend a client get drug tested and will refer the client out for those services, but it is not a service that we provide at the office. SFS will include ALL impressions, findings, and recommendations in the provided written report.
How long does it take to complete the assessment and receive the results?
The actual in person assessment will take anywhere from 90 to 120 minutes. Typically, the mental health practitioner will offer their initial impressions verbally after the assessment ends to ease any fears or anxiety the client may be experiencing. Most assessments are typically court ordered and required to regain access, visitation, and/or custody to the client’s children; SFS is very sensitive to this situation and finds all ways possible to minimize the stress of the assessment process.
SFS is able to return the completed written report of findings and recommendations between 10 to 14 business days. SFS is happy to email the completed report directly to the client. And, upon request of the client, SFS can also email the report to their attorney, case manager, and/or probation officer.
Does SFS accept insurance?
NO, SFS DOES NOT accept insurance and only accepts payments via cash, debit card, CashApp, Venmo, PayPal, or credit card. Because we are a nonprofit organization and committed to meeting the needs of those in our community, SFS may offer a payment plan to assist with the affordability of the assessment upon request and in certain circumstances.
It has been SFS’ experience that many court ordered evaluations are not covered by insurance.
